PSLF calculator: how many payments do you have left?
Short answer: PSLF needs 120 qualifying monthly payments. Enter how many you already have (from studentaid.gov or your PSLF form results) and we show how many are left and your earliest possible forgiveness month, if every month from now on qualifies.
Runs in your browser; nothing is sent. Assumes every future month is a qualifying payment (full-time qualifying employer, Direct Loans, qualifying plan, on time). Only ED's count on studentaid.gov is official.
What counts as a qualifying payment
- Full-time work for government or a 501(c)(3) — check yours in the PSLF employer search.
- Direct Loans on RAP, IBR, another IDR plan, or the 10-year Standard plan — compare payments in the RAP calculator.
- Certify employment yearly with the PSLF form.
- Gaps from deferment or forbearance may be recoverable through PSLF buyback.
PSLF forgiveness is not federal taxable income. This tool does not recommend refinancing: refinancing federal loans into a private loan ends PSLF eligibility.
